Does Your Compounding Vendor Follow the 5 C’s for Success?

As the Vice President of Sales for Wells Pharma, it is my responsibility to lead a brand-new company into the competitive market of 503B sterile outsourced drugs.  We provide Ready-To-Use medications to hospitals and surgery centers, saving them time, reducing their cost, extending the shelf-life of their drugs, and increasing the safety for their patients.

We do this by repackaging commercial drugs, taking the drug from vials and putting them into syringes and bags.  While this might sound simple, it is actually a highly-regulated and controlled process.  We use extremely expensive equipment to ensure a sterile environment, the personnel are highly-trained, and every product is quarantined until testing results show sterility, potency, and stability of the finished product.

Our industry (the 503B Outsourcing Facilities) is regulated and inspected by the FDA, and any procedural, operational or administrative errors are investigated.  This industry performs a much-needed service to healthcare facilities across the nation, and patient safety has improved since the formation of the 503B category as part of the Drug Quality and Security Act of 2013.

The last 8 years has seen a series of failed 503B outsourcers, with the ultimate failure coming with the closure of Pharmedium in early 2020.  That incident showed that even the market leader cannot survive when their quality and safety is in question.  While it came as a surprise to many, I was happy to see it…not because a competitor had fallen, but because it showed that big market-share, billions of dollars, and an owner like Amerisource-Bergen could not protect a company that was not doing things the right way.  The system worked…

And, as we take Wells Pharma into this market, the leadership has made a commitment to follow a set of standards.  We call them the “5 C’s of Success”, and they are the foundation of what we are certain will be a successful company.  We will not compromise, we will not waver, and we will not falter…The 5 C’s are:

  1. Confidence in Quality
  2. Customer Service
  3. Comprehensive Product Portfolio
  4. Consistent Supply
  5. Competitive Pricing

Over the next few weeks, I will be writing a series of blogs that details each of the “5 C’s of Success”, and how Wells Pharma is different from our competition.  The first in this series will be our Confidence in Quality…because that is, by far, the most important “C” of all.  Wells Pharma is, first and foremost, in the business of providing safe medication to our customers and their patients.  Quality is essential…and our customers MUST have Confidence in Wells Pharma.

Please visit our website, and “C” the Wells Pharma difference for yourself!
